Obituary

Janis L. Perkins, 67 of Sycamore, died unexpectedly on September 7th, 2025 at her home. She was born June 2, 1958 in Sycamore to Ronald and Ellen (Corson) Thompson.  She married Rick Perkins on January 27, 1979.


Janis graduated from Sycamore High School in 1976 and attended Kishwaukee Community College for two years. One of her favorite jobs was circulation supervisor at Sycamore news. She was also a care provider for children and the elderly.


In addition to being an exceptional care provider, Janis was also highly creative. She loved working with flowers, crafts, and painting. She and her husband enjoyed going out to sing karaoke. She would spend time doing art projects and playing games with her grandsons and always liked everyone to join in. Janis also loved being on the water. Her vacations with her family often included being on boats or at the beach.


Janis was survived by her husband Rick Perkins, her daughters Jessica Perkins (Cody) and Jaclyn Kepp (Larry), her brother Rick Thompson, and her two grandsons Damere and Jasiyah Kepp and her beloved dog Toby.


She was preceded in death by her mother Ellen Thompson, her father Ronald Thompson, and her sister Shirley McCabe.


Janis was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was fun loving and generous and left this world loved by so many.


Her visitation will be Friday Sept. 12, 2025 from 5-7:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave. in Sycamore.


Her funeral service will be Saturday Sept. 13 at 11:00 AM at the Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave. Sycamore, IL. A visitation will also be held from 10-11:00 AM on Saturday prior to the service.


Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery and luncheon will follow the graveside at the church.


Any donations made will go to Tails Animal Rescue, an organization that Janis supported.
