James D. O'Grady, Sr. died on January 31, 2023.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother.
He graduated from Notre Dame University in 1958 and from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1961. Jim and his wife, Mary Kae, were married in 1961 and have lived in Genoa for 60 years.
He practiced law in Genoa from 1961 until 1996 in partnership with Jon Cromley for many of those years. Early in his law career, he served as DeKalb County Public Defender and Assistant State's Attorney. He was a member of the Illinois Bar Association, DeKalb County Bar Association, Genoa Rotary Club and Genoa Chamber of Commerce.
Later in life Jim picked up baking as a hobby. He loved trying various bread recipes but among his grandchildren, his cookie recipes were the best. They share warm memories of baking in the kitchen with grandpa.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Kae; sons, James (Heather) and Tom and daughter, Mary O'Grady-Jones (Marshall); grandchildren, Brian, Steve, Amanda, Brenna and Tommy O'Grady and Meghan Kelly, and one great-grandson, Lewis O'Grady.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bernice O'Grady; his brother, George and sisters, Barbara and Jean.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 340 S. Stott St., Genoa, IL. on Saturday, February 4th at 11:00 AM, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
Burial will be at a later date at St. Catherine Cemetery.
