James (Jim) M. Rust, 42 of Sycamore died suddenly Sunday, September 20, 2020 at NW Medicine Hospital.

He was born on March 15, 1978 in Elgin IL to James R. and Marcella (Switzer) Rust.

On October 21, 2006 he vowed before his family and friends to love and cherish his bride Rebecca (Becky) Fischer along with making a vow to always love and cherish Trey and Alyssa as his own. On May 4, 2008 they were blessed with a third child Brianna, rounding out their family and wearing the title of Husband and Dad proudly.  He loved his family and always let it be known.  Family time was something he always made time for. Whether it was chasing sunsets and looking for critters, or sharing his love of outdoor activities he always made the most of the time he could with his family.

Jim was a true hunter and fisherman. Hunting and fishing were Jim's second love after his family. So much so that he established his own guide service for goose hunting and fishing. He considered himself a "good shot". He also loved to cook, give him a few ingredients and he would whip up a dinner that would amaze you.  He was known for quoting lines from movies (something he may have gotten from his father). Jim was quick witted and always had excellent one liners that would leave you laughing for days.

Jim never met a stranger, if you met him you became a friend. Along with sharing his big head full of useless knowledge, his vast knowledge about birds amazed his daughters.  He also drove his children crazy and declared himself an "Expert" at playing the claw game. He would play until he ran out of quarters (and dollars) and then proudly handed his children the rewards from his successful mission.  He was a kind and humble man that left his print on the hearts of many and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Jim leaves behind his wife Becky, daughters Brianna Rust and Alyssa Childress, son Trey Childress, father James (Lou Ann) Rust, mother Marcy (James) Bangiorno, brother Kelly Milligan, father-in-law Gerald Fischer, three sisters-in-law, Colleen, Tina and Sarah, one brother-in-law Gerry, grandmother Donna, their families, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  His dedicated hunting dog Guage and Cal-Cal.

Jim was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Robert and Marge Rust, maternal grandparents Loren and Virginia Switzer, mother-in-law Debbie Fischer, grandfather in-law Ralph, Uncle Dick and Aunt Pat.

His visitation will be on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore.  Social distancing will be followed and facial coverings must be worn in the funeral home- according the CDC guidelines. The family asks that you please be respectful of time and limitations for everyone to be able to pay their respects.
