Harold R. McFadden, 65, of Chicago went on to Glory after a heroic battle with cancer on Friday, June 10, 2022 at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago.
Harold was born on July 4, 1956. He was the son of James and Jessalyn (Shannon) McFadden.
He was a veteran of the US Navy assigned to the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, VA where he did radio and radar communications on naval submarines.
Among many jobs held in the public sector including flower, and over the road truck driver, but his passion was Alcohol and Drug addiction counselor.
Harold had many talents including; carpentry, floral arrangements, story telling, and building computers. He made his biggest impact advocating for the rights of others especially his fellow veterans as well as the staff on his unit.
He loved gathering for get togethers, playing cards (bidwiz, spades) but where he connected the most was his love and appreciation for food, and some good down home southern style cooking.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, his brother Darren McFadden, His Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by one daughter Doris (Emmanuel) Smith, and one son Harold (Marlene) McFadden Jr. Three grandchildren: Chance Perry, Moriah and Emmanuel Smith Jr. and a multitude of family, friends, associates, and adopted and extended family all over the country.
His visitation will be on Thursday, June 23rd at 10:00 AM at the Butala Funeral Home in Sycamore, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. He will be buried at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood, IL. with military honors at 2:30 PM.
