Gerald M. Taylor, 96, of Sycamore died February 16, 2024 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in Rockford. He was born on September 19, 1927 in Sycamore to Arthur and Edith (Davy) Taylor. He married Marilyn Moore on December 22, 1946.
Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp serving his country 1945-1946. During his adult life Jerry was the owner of Taylor Motor Auto Sales and Trailers, Taylor's Sandwich Shop and Taylor's Real Estate/Insurance Co., Veteran's Service Officer at the Veteran's Assistance Office. He served as a Township Auditor and for 25 years a volunteer Fire Fighter in Sycamore.
Jerry had a strong passion for singing. He sang in the church choir for more than 70 years, Barber Shop Chorus and Celebration Chorale. He cut an album in Nashville, TN, The Mellow Country Side of Jerry Taylor. Jerry was inducted into the Sycamore High School Music Hall of Fame. One of his joys was displaying his 1965 Classic Rambler Convertible in Classic and Vintage car shows.
His survivors include: Steven (Frances) Taylor, of Missouri, David Taylor, Jeanne Taylor, Jacque Taylor Lampkins and Thomas (Pamela) Taylor, all of Sycamore. He was "Grandpa" to 24 grandchildren, "Great-Grandpa" to 36 grandchildren, "Great-Great Grandpa" to 23 grandchildren, "Great-Great-Great Grandpa to 1 grandchild and Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Marilyn (Moore) Taylor, Son, Gregory Taylor, Daughter, Jerrilynn (Taylor) Mullins, Daughter In-Law, Alana (Glenn) Taylor, Parents, Arthur and Edith Taylor, Mother In-Law, Emma Moore. Siblings: Clifton, Ronald, Helen, Russel, Mary and Chuckie. Grandchildren: Pattie Ann Taylor and Justin Berry.
His visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 23 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL.
His funeral service will be at St. John's Lutheran Church, 26555 Brickville Road, Sycamore, IL., beginning at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Feb. 24. Burial with full military rites will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Gerald M. Taylor Memorial for later distribution.
