Obituary

George W. Sollinger, 80, of Genoa, IL. died on October 23, 2026 at NW Medicine- Kishwaukee Hospital.

He was born on September 21, 1946 in Chicago to George and Olive (Delaunty) Sollinger.

George met Rosemary Buckle in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on July 6, 1979. They got engaged on July 6, 1984 and marriage July 6 in 1985. He only had to remember one date.

After his father‘s death, he and his mother and grandmother moved to Genoa in the early 60s. George made many friends right away. After his mother‘s death, while still in high school, he felt as though the entire town of Genoa took care of him, the principal, teachers, classmates, merchants, young and old cared so much for his well-being. He talked about his classmates like family, they still got together. Many elders in town taught him many trades and he put them to use right up to his death. He grew to love this town of Genoa.

An Electrical engineer, he worked for Automatic Electric, then GTE for most of his career. George could fix anything, electrical, automotive, and plumbing. He loved working on lawn tractors most. He went to every tractor show that he could to buy parts. Everyone in the neighborhood knew he would cut up a dropped tree and remove it. He saw that as Free wood. He never stopped working hard right up to the very end.

George is survived by Rosemary (Rosie) his wife, four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law and 56 nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law and multiple sisters and brothers-in-law. George married into a big family who love him very much.

I want to thank family, friends, the Girls and the Guys for helping me through this. It means a lot to George.

Special thanks to the ICU department at NW Kishwaukee Hospital and Heartland Hospice for their special care and kindness.

His visitation will be on November 12th from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the CrossWind Community Church, 13100 Cherry Road, Genoa, IL. His memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM.
