George A. Helmold, 85, of Genoa passed away January 30, 2025, at Northwestern Kishwaukee Hospital.

He was born on February 22, 1939 in Itasca, IL, to Albert and Martha (Baumgartner) Helmold.

George married Joanne Zasopiar on April 30, 1960.

He was a member of the Genoa Lions Club, Methodist Men's Club, the DeKalb Co. Farm Bureau, and Ney Grange for over 35 years.

He enjoyed farming and gardening for over 50 years.  George loved to take walks with his dogs on country roads, wood-working, and talking to other farmers.

George is survived by his wife, Joanne; 4 children, Patricia Chelmowski (Ray), Linda Ripper (Grant), George Bryan Helmold (Toni Ferraro), and Robert Helmold; 7 grandchildren, Christina Brown (Joshua), Jessica Smothers (Charlie), Katelyn Helmold, Benjamin Helmold, Dana Duke (Ethan), Jessica Olmo (Joseph), and Alexander Ripper; and 4 great grandchildren, Carly Smothers, Andrew Smothers, Joshua Smothers, and Lily Olmo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Richard and Fredrick; and cousin, Norman Baumgartner.

George's visitation will be at the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W Main St, Genoa, IL 60135, on Saturday, February 8, from 10:00-11:00 AM.  A funeral service will begin at 11:00AM.  Burial will be at the Genoa Cemetery, Busse Addition.
