Frank Johnson, 80, of Genoa, IL, died October 27, 2024 at Northwestern Medicine in DeKalb, IL, with his family and close friend by his side, listening to his favorite music of the '50s.
He was born on April 17, 1944, in Pennsylvania to Fredric and Margaret (Gerlach) Johnson. He married Ginny Tewksbury on December 5, 1997, in Sycamore, IL.
Frank served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1979. He worked at AG Communications – Lucent until his retirement in 2009.
Frank loved to go out in his boat and fish. He went every year to the Chippewa Flowage in Hayward, WI.
He belonged to the VFW, American Legion, and the Genoa Veterans Home.
He was a past member of the Genoa Chamber of Commerce, Main Street in Genoa, and the Rotary Club.
Frank is survived by his wife, Ginny; daughter, Ginny (Mark) Wack; grandchildren, Connor and Mary Caroline; nieces, Laurie (Kate) Lewis and Jennifer Ball; nephews, David (Allison) Gresens, Kurt (Julie) Ball, and Chad Ball; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Sue Inman; sister-in-law, Wendy Ball; and many friends and neighbors. Also, by his cat, Sadie, who was always watching over him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredric and Margaret Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Dave Gresens; cousins, Bob and Helen Brooks; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Virginia Inman.
Per Frank's request there will be no services.
Memorials can be made to the Barn on Baseline Animal Shelter and Rescue, 16173 Baseline Rd., Genoa, IL 60135.
Arrangements were completed by Butala Funeral Homes and Crematory, in Sycamore, IL.
