Eric J.
Gabriel
Mar 9, 1984 — Aug 2, 2023
Eric J. Gabriel, 39, of Genoa passed away peacefully on August 2, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family after his lengthy battle with renal cell carcinoma.
He was born on March 9, 1984, the second child to Edward and Adele (Anderson) Gabriel. Eric attended Sycamore High School where he was active in FFA, earning his American degree. He enjoyed the mission trips with his church, Sycamore United Methodist. Eric earned an agriculture transfer degree from Kishwaukee College, and finished his schooling at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in agricultural business-finance before returning home to farm. Eric's love of farming was evident to all who knew him.
Eric met his wife, Toni, through his volunteerism for FFA, and they married on a beautiful fall day, October 11, 2014. They have two adorable children, Savannah and Landon, who were his life's joy. A nice and fun dad, he enjoyed playing Legos, monster trucks, and teaching them about farming. He was the best dad and husband his family could have asked for.
When not with his family or farming, Eric could be found tinkering on his tractors such as his recently restored John Deere 630, golfing, or simply visiting with his friends. Eric was a gun enthusiast, John Deere lover, and 90's country fan. He loved deeply and was a great friend to many.
Survivors include his wife Toni, children Savannah and Landon, sister Amy (Bryan) Gerretsen, parents Edward and Adele Gabriel, and grandmother Teresa Gabriel. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Fay Gabriel, and Walter & Marian Anderson.
His visitation will be held on Sunday, August 6th from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. Per his wishes, Eric will be cremated and will return home with his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his children in care of the Butala Funeral Home.
