Elder William Scott Bridgewater made a peaceful transition to his spiritual home from his natural home on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
He was born on July 13, 1926, in Whitewood, KY and raised in Hopkinsville, KY. His parents were George Robert Bridgewater and Lillian White. An only child, Elder Bridgewater settled in Sycamore, IL with his father in 1940 and became a member of the Israel of God's Church in 1941. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He married Ruth A. Williamson (deceased) in 1944 and to that union was born their son, George Kenneth Bridgewater. In 1970, Elder Bridgewater married Violet Rainey (deceased) and they were active members of the Israel of God's Church in Sycamore, IL, and the Sycamore community. Elder Bridgewater retired from Northern Illinois University where he worked in the maintenance department, and he specialized in the field of masonry.
Ruth A. Bridgewater preceded him in death. Elder Bridgewater was also preceded in death by his parents, his wife Violet Rainey Bridgewater and grandson Gregory Scott Bridgewater.
He leaves to cherish his memory his only child, son George Kenneth Bridgewater (Mother Sandra Bridgewater-deceased), and his granddaughter Meredith Bridgewater both of Sycamore, and nieces and nephews, friends, and the Israel of God's Church family.
His visitation will be on Friday. Aug. 6th from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. and from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday, Aug. 7th at the Israel of God's Church, W.H.A., 248 North Ave., Sycamore, IL.
His funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Sat. at the Church. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery.
