Earl "Pep" Mecklenburg passed away January 11, 2024 at the age of 87 in his longtime home of Sycamore, IL.   He saw every health challenge as just that - a challenge he could overcome.  He showed his strength and conviction through everything that came his way.

He was an incredibly giving man, a loving husband, father (and grandfather and great-grandfather), son and brother.  He was a friend to many and actively involved in Westminster Presbyterian Church and with a multitude of community and professional organizations, from the Sycamore Sports Boosters to the Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary and many, many more.  When he was needed - by family or friends - he was there to provide help, support, assistance and love.

He was born on a farm in Genoa City, WI and grew up working on the farm and, later, at his family's small market in Woodstock.  After serving in the Army, he returned to McHenry County and his future wife.  He worked for his future father-in-law before finding his calling in the insurance industry - where he spent the next 60+ years of his career.  He "retired" just after turning 85 and only went to the office two days a week after that!

If you needed a smile, he had a joke for you.  If you needed a kick, he'd give it to you.  If you just needed his support, he was there.  It didn't matter what he was doing or dealing with, he found a way to be there for his family and friends.

Earl is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy; his four boys - Ralph, Bill (Jill), Tom (Angie) and Jon (Stefanie); eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and his brother G. Lester (Skip).

He was preceded in death by his parents (Earl Charles and Vanetta) and his brother Van (Topper).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27th at 11:00 AM at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Joy Ringers of Westminster Presbyterian Church or the Senior Services area of the Family Service Agency of DeKalb may be made in Earl's name.
