Dorothy J. Madey, 79 years, of Genoa, Illinois, died in her home on November 9, 2024 surrounded by her children after a long battle with cancer

Born March 13, 1945, the daughter of Hartzel and Margaret (Kennedy) Hasty.  She married Leon Madey on June 29, 1963, and they were married for 50 years.  Dorothy sold Avon and was a realtor/broker in Belvidere for many years.  She was a member of St. Catherine of Genoa Catholic Church.

Dorothy loved spending time with her children and grandchildren on the farm, camping, baking, sitting at campfires, bowling, playing card games, and watching the Chicago Cubs.  She enjoyed doing a large variety of crafting, including knitting beautiful blankets for many newborn babies of family, friends and clients.

Dorothy is survived by her four children, Christine (Steve) DeVlieger, Julie Jauron, Mark Madey and Matthew Madey; six grandchildren, Jordan DeVlieger, Emily DeVlieger (Joe) Shugarman, Jacob Jauron, Jenna Jauron, Jason Madey and Rylee Madey; sister, Mary Ann (Harry) Nichol; one sister-in-law, Mary Jean (Gene) Lane; two brothers-in-law, Ben (Sandy) Madey and John Madey; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother.

Her funeral services will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 19 at St. Catherine of Genoa Catholic Church, 340 S. Stott St., Genoa.  Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Marengo.

The visitation will be from 4:00pm – 8:00 pm Monday, November 18 at Slater-Butala Funeral, 132 W. Main St. in Genoa.

Memorials may be made to the Leon Madey Charitable Memorial Fund through the DeKalb County Community Foundation at 475 DeKalb Avenue, Sycamore, Illinois 60178.

A special thank you to all her medical providers and caregivers throughout the years as well as family and friends who stopped by to visit, dropped off a meal, or sent a card.
