Doris M. Pernot's Obituary
Doris left this world on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at home, to once again be with the one and only love of her life "Sonny" and their son Tom.
Born on March 12, 1927 at the Sycamore Hospital to William and Cecile (Wilcox) Hindenberg.
After being abandoned by her birth father, she was fortunate enough to have new dad come into her life, whom she grew to love. Her mother Cecile married August (Augie) Gropp in 1931. He soon began teaching her all the things little girls should know: how to run a trap line, fish, hunt, spot a fox den, have pets such as a raccoon, crow, lamb, chickens and of course dogs and cats.
Doris went through grade school in Sycamore before moving to Rockford, IL with her family, where she completed school at Rockford East High.
It was at the Engh Roller Skating Rink at the age of 14 that she met her future husband Armand "Sonny" Pernot. Sonny enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served aboard the Mine Sweeper, USS Zeal 131, in the South Pacific. Sonny was discharged in 1946 and on June 28th 1947, Doris and Sonny were united in marriage at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Sycamore, IL.
In 1949 they were blessed with their first son Thomas (Tom). After waiting and hoping for another child, they were doubly blessed 11 years later with son number two, Jay W.
Doris worked at General Electric in DeKalb, IL for a total of 36 years, retiring in 1987. After retiring she and Sonny spent several wonderful years at their home on Lake Wisconsin near Lodi, WI. They loved anything and everything that they could do together. Boating, fishing and their favorite – dancing!!
Sonny lost his battle for life on December 22, 1998, due to diabetes and kidney failure.
Doris is survived by her son Jay, granddaughter Michelle Filimonovic and great grandson Branco Jr. also, her sister-in-law Marilyn Hindenburg, several nieces and nephews. And don't forget her special friends, Bette, Susan, Jayna, Merrie, Sherrie, Suzie, Sandy and Carole.
Predeceased by husband Sonny, son Thomas, Mother and father, brother Dale, grandparents and beloved special friends: Peggy Twombly, Norma Hudson and Myrla Underwood.
Her graveside service will be a the Elmwood Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements were completed by the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore.
