Donna Kay Thurwanger, 80, of Sycamore died peacefully surrounded by her family on August 19, 2023 at her home.
She was born on December 15, 1942 in Galesburg, IL to Edwin and Harriett (Thomas) Tessman. She married David Thurwanger her high school classmate and friend on August 8, 1964 in Kewanee,IL. For 59 years they enjoyed traveling, camping, and especially spending time at their home in Lake of the Ozarks.
After graduating from Kewanee High School in 1961 Donna attended Northern Illinois University earning her bachelors in education. She taught in Sycamore until retirement in 2004. Mrs. T would always share that her highlight of teaching was her interactions with her students.
Donna had a smile that would light up the room and always wanted to have fun. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, volunteering, reading, and cooking.
Donna is survived by her husband Dave of Sycamore, her children Lisa Luker of Geneva, and Mark Thurwanger (Tracy) of Plano, her grandchildren Lindsey Grignon (Troy) Christian Thurwanger, Rachel Thurwanger (Jacob Beauchem), Mason Luker and her first great grandchild Addy Grignon, her sister Jeanne Blakey (Marty), her sister-in-law Charlene Glynn and her beloved dog Benji as well as many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents.
Her visitation will be on Thursday, Aug. 24th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Butala Funeral Home in Sycamore.
Her funeral mass will be on Friday, Aug. 25th at 11:00 am at the Church of St. Mary, 244 Waterman St., Sycamore, IL. 60178. A luncheon will follow the mass at the Parish Activity Center.
Burial will be private at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Sycamore.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sycamore School District 427 or the St. Mary's Church in Sycamore in care of the Butala Funeral Home, 14-5 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. 60178.
