Donald L. Carpino, 88 of Genoa, IL, formerly of Naperville, IL, Wheaton, IL and Melrose Park, IL, died at 0645 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at a hospital in Chicago.

Mr. Carpino was born on June 4, 1937 in Chicago, IL, the son of Frank and Mary(Orozen) Carpino. He was raised in Melrose Park, IL. In 1959 after earning a Bachelor's degree in business from Northern Illinois University, Don enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps as an enlisted man. Within a year he was able go to OCS and become an artillery officer, 1st Marine DIV, "E" Battery, 2nd BN., 11th MAR. After 6 years he rose to the rank of Captain.  In 1963 he joined the IRS as a revenue agent, retiring in 1994.

He married Patricia Kline in Genoa, IL in 1963. They had two children, Michael and Susan.

Don was an avid high power rifle  match shooter from 1979 to about 2010, a skill he learned in the Marine Corps and perfected over many years. Don was also a voracious reader of books, especially history and military history. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles. A sometimes gruff but fair man, he was wise and always willing to give advice.

His parents and one grandson (Frank) preceded him in death.

Survivors include one sister, Arlene Skarzynski of Tinley Park,IL, two children, Michael Carpino, Genoa,IL and Susan(George) McCausland, also of Genoa. He has five grandchildren, Emily, Maria, and Frank (deceased) Carpino, Megan (Brady) Huffman and Mary McCausland.

A public burial is scheduled for 9:30 AM on Friday, September 19th, 2025 at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL. 60421.
