Obituary

Dolores (Dolly) Steinhouse, 91, passed away in her home surrounded by family and friends on September 2, 2026. Dolly was born to Edward & Bernadine Sittler in Wheaton, Illinois, the third of nine siblings. She worked as a secretary and a beautician prior to marrying Floyd Brummel in 1960. Dolly and Floyd resided in Naperville, Illinois for 11 years, where they had one daughter Teri. They built a home and moved to Virgil, Illinois in 1971, where Dolly continued to operate a beauty salon in their home for many years. After Floyd’s untimely passing in 1978, she continued to maintain the home in Virgil while venturing into new occupations including secretarial, retail, and banking. Dolly remarried in 1984 to Robert Steinhouse of Naperville. They resided in Virgil until moving to Geneva, Illinois in 2016.

Dolly was perpetually busy balancing home, work, and family, but found time for a wide range of artistic pursuits, including rosemaling, decorative painting, every form of needlework, quilting, crocheting, and knitting.  Much of her handiwork was gifted to friends, family, and community organizations. She supported, sacrificed, and gave tirelessly to her family and all those around her.

She is survived by her husband Robert, one daughter, Teri, one granddaughter, Kirby, three sisters, Sis Wiesbrook, Lois Konicek, and Kathy Markham, and one fluffy great-grand-dog, Lucy. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd, and five siblings, Jean Brummel, Pat Vanderwiel, Red Sittler, Bud Sittler, and Art Sittler.

Her visitation will be on Wednesday, September 9th from 3:00-6:30 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. 60178.  A paraliturgical service will begin at 6:30 PM.

A graveside service will take place on Thursday, September 10th at 10:30 AM at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Virgil, IL.
