Obituary

David Charles Blank, 83, of Monroe Center, IL. died October 18, 2023 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

He was born on January 20, 1940 to Viola and Charles Blank.  He was born in Hampshire, IL. where he lived until 1955. He then moved to Genoa, IL.

David graduated from the Genoa High School, Class of 1958. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964, where he was a radioteletype operator and received a good conduct medal.

David was employed at Automatic Electric from 1958-1968 (with time off to serve in the U.S. Army), then worked at Chrysler for 31 years (1968-1999).

He was married to Mary Ellen King from 1967-1978.  And later was married to Delores (Bonnie) Lee from 1980-2016. David passed away on their anniversary.

David had many hobbies, including lawn care and gardening- growing fruits and vegetables and many varieties of flowers. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, making cards, staying caught up with family and friends on his computer, listening to music (50's were his favorites), family "get togethers" and keeping up with grandkids and their events.

He always tried to make time for vacations and traveling with his wife Delores (being his "GPS").  He said he would have been lost without her and he meant that literally and figuratively.  They enjoyed sightseeing and an occasional stop at the casino.

David was an avid sports fan and loved watching all sports. He especially enjoyed his Chicago teams (Cubs, Bulls and Bears). When he wasn't watching sports, he could be found laughing hysterically at a comedy TV show or lost in a western show or a Lifetime movie.

Survivors include his children, Angela (Kent) Lampard, Joline (Lonnie) Latimer, Deanna (Glen) L'Huillier, Andrea (Jay) Schaack, Deanna (Dave) Warner, Dorrie (Don) McMurray and Dennis (Denise) Lee; 29 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and step daughter-in-law, Valerie Lee.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Viola Devine; his father, Charles Blank; his wife, Delores Blank; step-father, Maurice Devine; sister, Beverly Faber; step-son, Dan Lee; great grandson, Kyler Lee and many other family members.

His memorial visitation will be on Saturday, October 28th from 9:30-11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 33930 N. State Road in Genoa.  The service will begin at 11:00 AM.

Burial will follow at the Kingston Cemetery with full military rites.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Genoa in care of the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main St., Genoa, IL. 60178.
