Darain "Dean" Hall died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at NW Medicine- Kishwaukee
Hospital.
Dean was born on September 24, 1964 in Sycamore, Illinois, to Don and Ersel (Sams)
Hall.
He graduated from Sycamore High School in 1982, where he enjoyed participating in
wrestling. After high school, he attended Kishwaukee Community College, earning his associate
degree.
Dean began his career as a pressman at Genoa Business Forms, where he worked for 15
years. In the early 2000s, he briefly worked as an ironworker before an injury led him to change
paths. At that time, Dean returned to school and earned a bachelor's degree from Northern
Illinois University. His last position was the warehouse at 3M, where he worked for 15 years
before resigning to become a full-time caregiver for his beloved mother, Ersel, who is battling
dementia.
Dean had many passions, including woodworking, where he crafted beautiful pieces from
scratch, and gardening, as he took pride in his yard and flower beds. He was also an avid
motorcycle enthusiast who cherished riding his Harley Davidson.
Dean was preceded in death by his father, Donald R. Hall, in 2009.
He is survived by his mother, Ersel (Sams) Hall of Sycamore, IL; his brothers, Terry Hall (Toni) of El Dorado Hills, CA,
Tony Hall (Cheryl) of Sycamore, IL, and his twin sister, Deanna Groenwald (Ed) of Lindenhurst, IL.
Dean was a proud uncle to Ryan Hall, Adam Hall (Sarah), Joseph Hall, Emily Groenwald, Jake Groenwald, Lisa Foster, Gary Steger, and Brittany Brodeur.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a
private service at Butala Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 1405 DeKalb Avenue in
Sycamore, IL.
