Obituary

Cindy K. Graves, 61, of DeKalb died Sunday, May 22, 2022, at NW Medicine- Kishwaukee Hospital after a short illness.
She was born on August 20,1960 in Carthage, Illinois. to Leonard and Shirley (Webster) Miller.
Cindy was a graduate of Sycamore High School.  She received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University, her Registered Nursing degree from Kishwaukee College, her Bachelor's of Nursing degree from NIU, and her Master's degree in Health Care Administration from St. Francis College in Joliet.
Her life was dedicated to helping and caring for people.  She was a registered nurse at Kishwaukee Hospital for 30 years- working as a pediatric and emergency room RN, house supervisor, ER charge nurse, EMS educator, EMS coordinator and Emergency Room Director from 2005-2012.  From 2012 until the time of her death, Cindy worked at the DeKalb County Health Department as the Director of Community Health and Prevention, Health Promotion and Emergency Preparedness.
Cindy was very active in the community and with her church, including the following:  She was a former council president at Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore, member and current president of the Illinois Public Health Nurses Association, and served on the Board of Directors of the Children's Advocacy Center.
Survivors include her sons, Brandon and Ethan; brother, Ron (Linda) Miller; sister, Deanna (Dan) Carmichael; dear friend, Janet Hunt; 12 nieces and nephews and her dogs, Addison, Oliver and Beau.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Tyler S. Graves, and her brother, Terry Miller.
Her visitation will be on Friday, May 27th from 3:00-8:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore and from 9:30-10:30 AM on Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore.
A memorial service will begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 28th at Salem Lutheran Church, 1145 DeKalb Ave. in Sycamore, with Rev. Preston Fields officiating.   A luncheon will follow the service at the church.  Burial will follow the luncheon at the Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cindy Graves Nursing Scholarship Fund in care of the DeKalb County Community Foundation, 475 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
