Cheryl A. Korth, 60, of Hinckley, IL. passed away February 4, 2023 at her home after an extended battle with cancer.  She chose to fight this battle privately and always had the hope that she would be cured.

She was born on September 14, 1962 in DeKalb to Donald and Clara (Bruenning) Coffey.  She was married to Ken Korth on August 17, 1985 and they made Ames, IA their first home. They became parents of two boys, Kevin and Ryan, of whom she was very proud of all of their achievements.

Cheryl was a 1980 graduate of Genoa-Kingston High.   She was a talented athlete in high school where   she competed downstate with the track 4 x 4 relay team and played on the  '79 - '80 "Sweet Sixteen" basketball team.  She was a 1982 graduate of Kishwaukee College and held their women's basketball career scoring record for a number of years.

Cheryl worked for many area banks as a Teller, Schnadig Corporation as a Labor Rate Analyst, Kohls as a Cash Collector, Receptionist for Hinckley Village Hall, Administrative Assistant for several college department's at NIU, most recently with the Law School and Math Departments. Her most cherished job however was being a mom during the early school years of her boys.

She was an avid sports fan for the Cubs, Bears, and Bulls, watching on TV every game possible. Though she did not attend Iowa State, she was a huge supporter of all ISU sports.  From attending football, basketball, and volleyball games with Ken to watching up to three ISU sports on different media at the same time. She followed the teams closely, to the delight of Ken, allowing him easy access to the sports of his alma mater.  Besides being a sports fan, Cheryl kept the official score for her sons' sports teams from youth all the way through junior and senior high school.

Cheryl's other hobbies included an extensive stamp collection, scrapbooks of her son's achievements, and watching for the annual migration north of the hummingbirds.  She also enjoyed watching the variety of other birds that frequented the backyard feeders.  Over the last several years, she enjoyed taking walks at the Afton Forest Preserve.

Surviving are her husband, her sons Kevin (Bryant) Korth of Tallahassee, FL and Ryan (Morgan) Korth of Roscoe, IL, along with two beloved grandchildren, Benny and Ellie.  She also is survived by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.

She was preceded in death by infant older sister Sherry and her grandparents.

Her visitation will be on Friday, February 10th from 4:00-7:00 PM at Butala Funeral Home, 1405 Dekalb Ave., Sycamore, IL.

A funeral mass will be recited on Saturday, February 11th at 10:30 AM at St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 340 S. Stott, Genoa, IL.  Burial will be at the St. Catherine of Genoa Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Korth family which will be directed toward a memorial tree and bench at the Afton Forest Preserve.
