Carrol A. Tabone (née Smith), 81, of Sycamore, IL, died at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 12, 2021, after a short battle with cancer.
She was born March 30,1940, in Sandwich, IL, the daughter of Virgil F. and Angelina (Venardi) Smith. As a young entrepreneur she started Carrol Ann's School of Charm in DeKalb when she was only 23. She married Dominick (Nick) L.Tabone on April 3, 1965, in DeKalb. Carrol and Nick met while working together at the Piggly-Wiggly. In 1968, they purchased their own supermarket, the Genoa IGA, and ran it together until 1985. After selling the store, Carrol had many part-time jobs, her favorite being the years spent working with her sister Ginny who owned the antique shop Bygone Era in Sycamore.
Carrol enjoyed various hobbies over the years including collecting small antiques and figurines, especially Precious Moments, but loved her life as homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother the most. Her favorite holiday was Christmas when she was known to have at least two Christmas trees in the house, all beautifully decorated, often with different themes.

Carrol is also survived by four children: Jill Tabone of West Dundee, Joseph (Mary) Tabone of Sycamore, step-son Tom (Lynda Appino) Tabone of Palatine and step-daughter Terri Tarsitano of Schaumburg…and four grandchildren: Christopher Tabone of DeKalb, Leah Tabone of St. Louis, MO, Alexandra (Gennaro De Prisco) Appino-Tabone of Santa Barbara, CA, and Alayna Appino-Tabone of Montreal, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Nick, granddaughter Theresa Tabone, niece Jody (Alsup) Young, sister Phyllis Perkins, and brother-in-law Thomas Perkins.
