Carol J. McLain, 82, of Sycamore passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Kishwaukee Hospital.
She was born on November 13, 1938 in Sycamore, IL to Floyd and Millicent Mowry. She was married to Gene Howe on October 25, 1958. After the passing of her first husband, Carol married Gerard McLain on February 17, 1977, whom she spent many wonderful years with enjoying each other's company!
Carol enjoyed any activity that included being crafty in anyway. She owned a Ben Franklin with her second husband, which was a great way to showcase her crafting abilities. She loved hosting family gatherings, such as the yearly white elephant Christmas bingo game. Always a highlight for her and her family members with a lot of good laughs. Carol had an astounding Snowman collection that filled many areas of her house. She enjoyed gardening in her yard and spending time in her three-seasoned porch area.
She was an active, faith-filled woman of Salem Lutheran Church where she loved spending time either participating in the Puppeteer Group or volunteering in the church office.
Carol was loved by and will be missed by many!
Survivors include her children, Melody (Chris) Stanbery, April Olson, Gene Howe, Bernadette (Ken) Wnek, Colleen (David) Lundgren, Kathryn (David) West, Michael (Colleen) McLain, Daniel (Beth) McLain; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brother, Edward Mowry; and many nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Gene Howe; second husband, Gerard McLain; sister-in-law, Elaine Mowry; her beloved dog, Gizmo, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Her visitation will be on Thursday, October 28 between 10:00-11:00 am at Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore with the service to begin at 11:00 am. The burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the DeKalb Moose Club, 1231 E Lincoln Highway, following the burial.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude's Kids and Mooseheart Kids.
