Obituary

Carl (Cully) Wallin, 80, passed away July 31, 2023, at Mayo Hospital in Rochester, MN.

He and Norma were on their way home from celebrating Christmas in July and their 59th wedding anniversary with family. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He fought a long battle with health problems.

He was born April 13, 1943, in DeKalb, IL, the middle child of George and Virginia (Thompson) Wallin. He grew up on a farm near Kingston and graduated from Genoa - Kingston school district. He graduated from Iowa State University where he studied animal science. He married Norma J. Anderson on July 25, 1964, in Sycamore, IL. They were blessed with two children, Pamela and Paul. He worked at Green Giant, followed by several seed companies and eventually retired from Pioneer. His hobbies included playing basketball when younger, fishing, gardening, traveling and card playing. He had a passion for horses, owning and showing several Appaloosas. He visited all 50 states, fishing in many of them, as well as Canada.


Survivors include his wife, Norma, daughter, Pam (Doug) Roose and son, Paul (Amy) Wallin. He was a proud grandfather to Kayla (Zach) Battleson of White Bear Lake, MN. Kylie (Bailey) Wetherell of Coralville, IA. Matt (Courtney) Roose of Cape Coral, FL. Emily Wallin and Ally Wallin of West Des Moines, IA. He has a great-grandson, Noah Wetherell, and another great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by a brother, Ted (Donna) Wallin and many nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Pat Hackman and his brother-in-law, Bill Hackman.

His service will be on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 2pm at Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main St., Genoa, IL. Following the service a luncheon will be held from 3pm-5pm at Kingston United Methodist Church, 121 First St., Kingston, IL.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Arthritis Foundation or a charity of your choice.

A celebration of life will be held at the Elite Lodge of Ashworth in West Des Moines, IA at a later date.
