Obituary

Carl Stephen "Steve" Lindbeck, 80, of Sycamore died December 17, 2023 at St Anthony's Medical Center in Rockford.


He was born on October 26, 1943 in Chicago to Carl S. and Hazel (Miller) Lindbeck. He married Gayle Martin and spent 58 wonderful years together.


Steve was a veteran of the Naval Air Force.  He was member of the Maple Park American Legion, where he enjoyed volunteering for community events. Steve was an avid lover of animals.  He supported the ASPCA and the Humane Society.


Steve attended Bradley University.  He worked with his father at his grandfather's boiler shop in Chicago until taking a position as a Boiler Inspector with the State of Illinois from 1968-1974 when he became the Asst. Boiler Chief from 1974-1978.  He left to take a position with the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors out of Columbus, OH and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.  He traveled for business extensively throughout Europe, the Far East, South America, the Middle East, Canada and Africa.  He left the National Board in 1996 to return working for the State of Illinois.  He retired from the State in 2009.


Survivors include his wife, Gayle; his daughter, Nicole J. (Mike) Boddy of Sycamore; grandchildren, Sabrina Gandsey, Sierra (Ian) Engel, Morgana Gandsey, Quinton Gandsey, Madisyn Boddy and Griffin Gandsey; his great granddaughter, Genevieve Engel; and many cousins.


He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Stephen C. Lindbeck in 2022.


His visitation will be on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 10:00 AM -1:30 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL., followed by a military graveside burial at the Charter Grove Cemetery in rural Sycamore.
