Burton William Lee, Sr., 95, of Sycamore joined his family in heaven on November 13, 2025.
He was born on March 23, 1930 at the Glidden Hospital in DeKalb to Frank E. and Gladys (Beamish) Lee. He attended Sycamore High School and delivered newspapers to earn extra money. At age 15, he was sent to his Uncle Charles Lee's farm in MO, where he graduated from LaPlata High School in 1949. He attended NIU and took accounting and CPA classes. His daughter, Brenda signed him up to attend the Honor Flight in which he enjoyed with a full plane of veterans.
Burton served in the US Army from March 6, 1951 and was honorably discharged on December 22, 1952. He was a company clerk typist in Okinawa, Japan. He returned to LaPlata and went back and forth to Sycamore, where he was set up on a blind date with Catherine Kate Prain and 2 months later they married on August 23, 1953. Burton worked for Falls Products in Genoa and the Whirlwind Food Shop/Amaco for many years.
Survivors include his children, Brenda J. (Rick) Dailey of DeKalb, Burton W. (Carol) Lee, Jr. of West Branch, IA, and Binetta Lee (Steven) of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Nickolas (Rhonda) Dailey, Billy Lee, III (Pam), Jon Lee (Michelle), Katie Spircoff and Zach Newby; great grandchildren, Morgan Dailey, Nolan Dailey, Jax Lee, Lily Lee, Anya Lee, Sylvia Lee, McKenzie Newby and Zoey Newby; and cousin, Rick (Paula) Butts.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Catherine of 54 years; daughter, Rebecca (Dave) Newby; 3 grandsons, Josh Dailey, Chance Newby and Nickolas Spircoff; granddaughter, Ciara Newby and sister, Vivian Butts.
His visitation will be on Thursday, Nov 20th from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. His funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM.
Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery with full military rites.
