Bonnie Koerner, 82, of Genoa passed away peacefully at home in December 2024.

Bonnie was born on August 16, 1942, to Clarence and Anne (Studnick) Smetana.  She married Gary Koerner on June 6, 1964.

She was a graduate of Northern Illinois University, earning her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the Nursing Program.  Nursing was one of Bonnie's passions, spending the early part of her career working as a nurse and teaching Lamaze classes at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.  She later transitioned to teaching nursing at Kishwaukee Community College.  Her career allowed her to touch many lives, and she seemed to run into someone she knew every time she went out.

Bonnie's passion for caring for others extended to her involvement at Trinity Lutheran Church of Genoa where was enjoyed spending time with parish nursing and Ladies Aid.  She also served several years teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Bonnie found enjoyment in gardening, baking cookies and spending time with her family.  She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow into adults and was excited to welcome the next generation with the birth of her first great-grandchild.  She was always ready to share stories about each and every one of them.

Survivors include her children, Jeff (Caroline) Koerner, Heather Lambdin and Tiffany Jozwiak; grandchildren Bailey Koerner, Ryan (Lauren) Lambdin, Taylor (Ian) Todd, Jacqueline Koerner, Olivia (Jeremy) Baudrand, Milana Jozwiak, Devlin Jozwiak and Gisele Jozwiak; and great-grandson Callahan Lambdin.

Services for Bonnie will be private.  Burial will be at the Genoa Cemetery – Busse Addition.
