We're sad to announce the passing of Billy Gene Gates of Dekalb, Illinois. He died at the age of 52 on May 1st, 2023. Billy passed away surrounded by loved ones in their family home. Billy was loved by many, and will forever be missed.

Billy grew up in Aurora, Illinois where he went to Aurora High School spending all his days on the football field. Not long after this he was blessed with his daughters where he continued to spend all his time on the sports fields. He spent most of his free time surrounded by family and friends, which is the only way he wanted it to be. Throughout his entire life he was a union roofer working many jobs from here to Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gates and Carlock; his mother, Carol Gates; and daughter, Teah Gates.

Billy is survived in death by his father, William Gates; sisters, Sherry Maldonado and Tracie Veliz; daughters,Taylor and Tori Kenny-Gates; and grandchildren, Grayson Hyde and Rory Gates; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, wildly entertaining stories and unfailing work ethic.

His visitation will take place at Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178 on Monday, May 8, at 11:00 am until 1:00 pm and the service will begin at 1:00 pm with burial to follow. He is being laid to rest at Ohio Grove Cemetery.
