Barbara Ann (Feltes) Niewold passed away at her home in Sycamore, IL after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born January 1, 1948, in Chicago, IL to Willis and Elaine (Beuchner) Feltes. Barbara was a graduate of St. Charles High School in 1966. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Concordia College River Forest. Barbara was a third-grade teacher for the Marengo School District for 33 years before retirement. Her students were her passion.
In 1969, Barbara met Cary Niewold at a summer job while they were both attending college. She married Cary on June 6, 1970, and they began their life together. They enjoyed spending time together, with family, and traveling. Their first child, Tim was born September 17, 1975, and added daughter Garnet on June 12, 1977. Family was everything to Barbara. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
After retirement, Barbara enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren (Julian, Xena, Jackson, Brynn, and Greer) as well as attending exercise classes.
She is survived by her husband, Cary; children, Tim (Seanna) Niewold, Garnet (Shawn) Hillman; her grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
Barbara's visitation will be held at Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178. The visitation will be on Friday, February 14, from 9:00-11:00 AM with a service starting at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Sycamore Community Center.
