Alberta J. Dequin, 92, of DeKalb died January 22, 2023 at her home. She was a daughter, grandchild, niece, sister, student, wife, mother, aunt, teacher, grandmother, great grandmother, artist, banner designer, gardener, volunteer, docent, genealogist, founder of the Cardiac Rehabbers Support Fund and a child of God.
Alberta was born on March 16, 1930 in St. Louis, MO to Joseph W. and Beatrice (Beckwith) Kalna. Alberta married Rev. Henry C. Dequin on September 17, 1949 in St. Louis.
She received her Bachelor of Education at Northern Illinois University and was an elementary school teacher in Creston, IL, retiring after many years of service.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Linda) Dequin, Rebecca (Richard) Vrtis, Rachel England and Mark (Debbie) Dequin; grandchildren, Nicole Robinson, Matthew and Eric Vrtis, Elizabeth Arsenault, Nathan Dequin, Melissa LaTulip, Danielle Dequin, Nicole Homick, Tiffany Lay and Patrisha Roeske; and great grandchildren, Scarlett and Gatlin Robinson, Owen and Nora Vrtis, Andrew and Caden Arsenault, Kollin and Lilyana Dequin, Xaida LaTulip, Cameron and Isabelle Homick, Jenna Blackwell, Xavier Lay, Colton and Cody Roeske and Veda Kay Vrtis.
She was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Beatrice Kalna; her husband, Rev. Henry C. Dequin; son-in-law, Paul Steven England; grandson, Jesse Michael Dequin and sister, Beatrice Jacquelin Kinamore.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful care and support for Alberta and her family to all of the staff at the Northern Illinois Hospice Agency; Alberta's former caregiver, Jerzy "George" Mysliwiec; our recent caregiver, Miriama Nasivo whom Alberta called "Angel", St. John's Lutheran Church; all her friends, neighbors and relatives.
Her visitation will be on Friday, February 3rd from 9:00-11:00 AM at the Ev. Lutheran Church of St. John, 26555 Brickville Road, Sycamore, IL. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul Mumme officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
A luncheon will follow the burial at the Church.
