With heavy hearts, the family of Al Tierney, announce his peaceful passing on 2/2/2025. Psalm 103:15-16 declares our days on Earth are like grass, the wind blows and we are gone. Some leave an immeasurable mark. Al Tierney lived a life of perseverance and triumph. Al Tierney's passion intertwined with great purposeful determination to ensure any and all would hear about the good news of Jesus. Driven by a faithful love in Jesus Christ, he served mightily in prison and senior ministries and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His ministry passion directed him to Wayside Cross Ministries. He not only helped set up a maintenance program for their campus, he diligently served at Dixon Correctional Center. Al traveled to every prison and/ or jail in the state of Illinois pouring into the lives of these inmates.

Al graduated with a Civil Engineering degree in 1973 from the University of Dayton and later pursued a Masters of Art in Religion from Urban Ministry in 2004, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He began his career as a Staff Engineer which led to a position as Village Engineer. Al Tierney's drive to work hard for his young family allowed him to move mightily up the ladder to Director of Engineering, Senior Associate, and spend nearly twenty years as a Real Estate Manager with W.W. Grainger, INC., in Lake Forest, IL. Success was inevitable with such passionate goal-minded drive to take care of his family and take care of us, he did. Al Tierney went on to be President of Regal Alliance, INC. and then spent ten years as Director of Facilities Maintenance at Bridgestone Retail Operations, LLC. Exponential experience allowed Al to write and publish Retail Facilities Maintenance-The Circle of Management.

Al enjoyed bike riding, reading, studying the Word of God, playing chess (with his grandsons), beating all of us in ping pong, attending all his grandchildren's activities (Concerts, plays, TKD and athletic games) not only cheering them all on but offering wisdom (He spent the last twenty-three years pouring into the lives of his beloved grandchildren.) Al spent time visiting others who were ailing, offering a hand to his neighbor, and if you couldn't find him, he was most likely at Chipotle. Al loved his wife, Cathy, and would look forward to little getaways, movie dates, guessing puzzles on Wheel of Fortune and playing Scrabble. He made sure his children, Mike, Pat, and Shannon had all they needed, teaching them to drive (Yes, even stick shift), coaching teams, taking them to church and youth group weekly, driving to and from colleges, supportive and present when grandchildren were born, and always without ceasing lifting up his entire family in prayer. The Tierney family will lament but also celebrate a very beloved servant of Jesus Christ, a loving husband, a dedicated father and adoring grandfather.

Al is survived by his wife of fifty years, Cathy Tierney, sons Michael Tierney (Tina) and Patrick Tierney, daughter Shannon Tierney, grandchildren Jack, Lani, Isabella, Luke, Maya, Kristina, Shaun, Collin, Lincoln, and Natalie, sister Patricia Sindelar (Ron), and sister-in-law, Jan Stawiarski.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers but the word of the Lord endures forever. Not a goodbye, until we see you again Dad, in our hearts you will remain.

A memorial visitation will be on Thursday, Feb. 6th from 3:00-5:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL.
